BACKGROUND
KOLPING INTERNATIONAL is a Catholic International Organization founded in 1850 in Cologne Germany by the blessed Fr. Adolf Kolping. The organization is currently present in 61 countries with over 400,000 members around the world, Malawi inclusive.
Kolping Society of Malawi was officially established as an organization on 23rd March 2023 and got registered as a National Association. It currently has 1956 members spread across the three Catholic Dioceses of Karonga, Mzuzu and Dedza with plans of extension to other Dioceses. The organization has strong presence in the Diocese of Karonga which also holds its National Office in Karonga District. Kolping Society of Malawi aims at promoting the common good in a Christian spirit by empowering individuals and communities through self-help programs, social and economic initiatives and fostering strong families and communities.
Kolping Society of Malawi, with assistance from KOLPING INTERNATIONAL, will be implementing a project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) known as Promoting Economic Development and Social Participation among small holder households in rural areas in Malawi.
It is in this regard that KOLPING Malawi invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to be considered for the positions of Regional Coordinator with qualifications in Agricultural related fields to assist in facilitating and coordinating project activities of the self-help groups.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job title: Regional Coordinator
Reports to: Country Director
Location: Kasungu and Ntcheu
Duration: 1 year renewable
Summary of responsibilities
-To manage, support and strengthen self-help groups within their impact areas by facilitating community mobilization activities, self-help groups establishment, and fostering economic empowerment among the beneficiaries.
Duties and responsibilities
-Initiate recruitment of new self-help groups and strengthening the already existing ones
-Assist in planning, implementing and monitoring self-help projects and support data collection on project indicators and activities to ensure proper project execution.
-Act as the central contact person between the Project catchment area and the National Office and ensuring consistent communication
-Monitor regional activity budgets, track spending against planned activities and ensure project expenditures comply with donor and organizational guidelines.
-Organize and facilitate meetings, seminars, training workshops and capacity-building activities to empower members and local leaders
-Represent the Kolping Society at regional and community levels ensuring that the organizations mission is visible and respected
-Strengthen unity among Kolping Families by fostering collaboration and building strong networks within the region.
-Identify implementation challenges and propose mitigation measures.
-Collect and consolidate reports from local groups, Document success stories and lesson learnt that will provide accurate and timely updates to the National Office.
-Identify opportunities for fundraising and partnerships, while supporting income-generating projects and savings groups.
-Encourage prayer, Bible sharing, and Catholic social teachings among the members
-Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies, social inclusion, gender equality principles, and environmental standards.
-Any other duties as assigned from time to time
Qualification:
Preferably a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Irrigation technology, Agronomy, Social Sciences, Development studies, Agribusiness/ Agri-economics and Environmental Sciences obtained from a recognised institution
Have at least 3- 5years’ experience working in community related projects and International Donor funded projects
Experience in participatory Community development approaches, including working with self-help groups, farmer groups or community-based organizations.
Experience in agricultural development, climate-resilient farming practices, or rural livelihood improvement programmes is an added advantage.
Possess good analytical skills and proficient in writing technical reports, with the ability to interpret field data and support evidence-based decision making.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to facilitate trainings, meetings and community dialogues.
Fluent in English, Chichewa and Tumbuka Languages
Proficiency in basic computer applications, including MS Word, Excel and email communication.
Knowledge of the Catholic Social teachings
A motorbike license and willingness to travel frequently within the project area is a must
