POSITION: INTERN – LOAN OFFICER
Location: Lilongwe
BACKGROUND
We are a fast-growing, licensed microfinance institution in Malawi, dedicated to providing accessible and innovative financial solutions. We are currently seeking a highly motivated and trainable Intern-Loan Officer to join our dynamic Operations team in Lilongwe.
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Intern-Loan Officer will report to the Operations Officer and will serve as a key frontline officer supporting the delivery of various loan products. The role involves client engagement, credit assessment, loan processing, portfolio monitoring, and learning the full lending cycle under the guidance of the Operations Officer.
Key Responsibilities:
• Explain to clients the various loan products, eligibility criteria, terms, and conditions available.
• Conduct field visits to assess operations and verify information provided by loan applicants.
• Collect, verify, and analyse credit information, financial data, and agribusiness project viability.
• Process loan applications, prepare complete loan files, and submit them for approval.
• Evaluate credit risk, assign probability of default, and recommend appropriate loan structures, pricing, and conditions within delegated authority.
• Monitor and manage existing loan portfolios to ensure timely repayments and take early action on past-due accounts.
• Maintain all client files and records in a secure and confidential environment in line with data protection standards.
• Actively participate in all scheduled training programmes and field mentoring sessions
Qualifications and Experience
• Minimum of a Diploma in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Rural Development, or any related field from a reputable institution.
• Fresh graduates or candidates with limited experience are encouraged to apply.
• Ability to ride a motorcycle will be a strong added advantage.

• Strong analytical skills with close attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Good interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with rural clients.
• Strong time management and organisational skills to meet deadlines.
