The Women Lawyers Association (WLA) is an independent non-profit organization of women lawyers and legal professionals working to empower women and girls in Malawi.
WLA uses the law as a tool to:
✔️ Promote and protect women’s & children’s rights
✔️ Combat gender-based violence and discrimination
✔️ Drive legal and systemic reforms
✔️ Provide legal advocacy, education, and outreach
Position: Project Lawyer
Reporting to: Executive Director
The Project Lawyer will lead WLA’s litigation and advocacy work in line with the organization’s mandate.
Key Responsibilities
✔️ Attend court hearings and manage litigation for WLA clients
✔️ Conduct legal research and provide legal advisory services
✔️ Draft reports and training materials on WLA activities
✔️ Facilitate capacity-building trainings, legal clinics & outreach programs
✔️ Supervise paralegals and interns
✔️ Support advocacy for women’s and children’s rights
✔️ Perform other duties assigned by the Executive Director
🎓 Requirements
✔️ Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from a recognized institution
✔️ Admitted to practice law in Malawi
✔️ Minimum 3 years post-admission experience in litigation
✔️ Strong experience in women’s and children’s rights cases
✔️ Excellent legal drafting, communication & organizational skills
✔️ Strong understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks on gender and human rights
