POSITION: HOSPITALITY MANAGER 


Location: Mbame Estate, Blantyre 





OVERVIEW 

Fisherman's Rest Lodge, affiliated to a UK charity, is community orientated and located on 

Mbame Estate in rural Blantyre, Malawi. For over 20 years, we have been woven into the 

fabric of the communities around us, welcoming families, school groups, church teams and 

long-term volunteers from around the world into a genuinely different kind of travel 

experience. 

 

We are looking for a Hospitality Manager who doesn't just run a smooth lodge but who 

understands that every guest who walks through our gates is stepping into a new 

experience. We’re looking for someone whose warmth, competence and deep care for 

people makes every guest feel not like a customer, but a member of a family. 

 

About the Role 

As Hospitality Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day running of the lodge and guest 

experience from arrival to departure. You will work closely with the Fisherman's Rest team, 

our lodge staff, and our network of community partners to ensure every stay is safe, 

meaningful and exceptionally well-hosted. You will also be expected to take on local 

marketing responsibilities this includes attending TAKULANDIRANI in Lilongwe. 

 

This is a hands-on, people-first role. You will live on-site at Mbame Estate as part of your 

position, fully embedded in the community and the Fisherman's Rest family. The role 

operates across a 7-day week on a flexible shift rota, as is standard in hospitality, you will be 

expected to work flexibly, including weekends and public holidays. 

 

Day-to-Day Responsibilities 

• Lead and manage all lodge operations including accommodation, catering, 

housekeeping and facilities maintenance 

• Welcome and brief guests on arrival, ensuring they feel fully supported and prepared 

for their time with us

• Liaise with community project leaders to align guest activities with local initiatives 

• Manage bookings, invoicing, and guest communications 

• Supervise and support staff team, fostering a positive, service-driven culture 

• Ensure health, safety, and safeguarding standards are upheld at all times 

• Handle guest feedback and resolve any issues promptly and professionally 

• Support marketing efforts, including social media updates and representing the lodge at events like TAKULANDIRANI 

• Maintain accurate records and report to the UK-based trustees 

 

Who We're Looking For 

• Proven experience in hospitality, hotel, or lodge management 

• Strong leadership and team management skills 

• Excellent interpersonal skills - warm, approachable, and culturally sensitive 

• Highly organized with ability to manage multiple priorities 

• Comfortable living in a rural, community-based setting 

• Flexible and willing to work non-standard hours including weekends/holidays 

• Passion for community development and cross-cultural exchange 

• Malawi national or resident with valid right to work 

• Proficiency in English; Chichewa an advantage
