INTERNAL AUDITOR

Overview

Sunbird Tourism Plc is inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced auditing professionals to fill the position of Internal Auditor based at its Head Office in Blantyre. The successful candidate will support the Internal Audit function by identifying and evaluating risk areas, conducting audits, and providing recommendations that enhance operational efficiency, compliance, and risk management.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying and evaluating organizational audit risk areas and contribute to the development of the risk-based annual internal audit plan.
  • Perform audit procedures, including identifying and defining issues, developing audit criteria, reviewing documents, and analyzing evidence.
  • Conduct interviews, administer surveys, prepare working papers, and draft audit reports and summary memoranda.
  • Identify, document, and communicate audit findings and recommendations for improvement.
  • Support the communication of audit and consulting project results to management.
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with clients, management, and staff.
  • Participate in special investigations and other audit-related assignments as required.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications, Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor's Degree in a business-related field from a recognized and accredited institution.
  • Professional qualifications such as CIA, ACCA, or related certifications will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in internal or external auditing.
  • Sound knowledge of internal auditing and accounting principles, practices, and standards.
  • Good understanding of Global Internal Audit Standards.
  • Knowledge of management information systems concepts and practices.
  • Understanding of industry policies, procedures, regulations, and applicable laws.
  • Knowledge of risk management and internal control frameworks.
  • Familiarity with fraud indicators and fraud risk assessment techniques.
  • Ability to conduct quality assurance reviews of audit work.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills with the ability to evaluate complex information and draw logical conclusions.
  • Experience in audit planning and project management.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, audit management software, and other business systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • High levels of professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
