Position: Application Support Specialist (Core Banking & Business Applications)

OVERVIEW
Standard Bank Malawi is seeking a qualified and experienced Application Support Specialist to provide technical support for Core Banking and business applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving application issues, monitoring system performance, supporting upgrades, and ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient banking operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- SQL certification or qualification is an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 3 years' experience supporting business or banking applications.
- Experience in banking, financial services, or a related industry.
- Familiarity with Core Banking systems, integration platforms, and peripheral applications.
- Experience supporting application upgrades, patches, and production environments.
- Experience troubleshooting technical issues within Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide technical support for Core Banking and related business applications.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve application incidents.
- Monitor application performance and system health.
- Support application upgrades, patches, and routine maintenance.
- Assess the impact of system changes to minimize service disruption.
- Review technical specifications for application enhancements.
- Perform API testing and validate system integrations.
- Monitor and track system defects until resolution.
- Collaborate with developers and cross-functional teams to improve application performance.
- Ensure compliance with security and operational standards.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Strong understanding of transactional banking operations.
- Knowledge of payment systems and banking processes.
- Database administration (Oracle, SQL Server).
- Linux/Unix and Windows server environments.
- APIs, integrations, and networking concepts.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- High attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively.
