OVERVIEW
The NGO Gender Coordination Network (N-GO-GCN) is an umbrella network comprising 63 local civil society organizations working to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in Malawi. With financial support from the Government of Norway through UN Women Malawi, NGO-GCN is implementing the Chief Kachindamoto fund project titled “Elevate Her Future, Kwezani Tsogolo Lake” in Traditional Authority Kachindamoto, Dedza District.
The project aims to increase girls’ retention in school and eliminate child marriage. To support the implementation of this project, NGO-GCN invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Field Officer, to be based in Dedza District.
Job Purpose
The Field Officer will be responsible for coordinating and implementing community-based interventions aimed at ending child marriage and promoting girls’ education in Traditional Authority Kachindamoto, in Dedza district. The successful candidate will work closely with existing local structures and other stakeholder’s that support interventions in ending child marriage.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Field Officer will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Coordinate and implement project activities in Dedza District in accordance with the approved work plan.
Mobilize communities to actively participate in project implementation and ownership.
Work closely with existing community structures and local leaders supporting efforts to end child marriage and promote girls’ education.
Collaborate with government departments, civil society organizations, and other partners implementing similar initiatives within the district.
Represent NGO-GCN in relevant district-level stakeholder meetings, such as District Executive Committee (DEC), technical working groups, and related coordination forums.
Facilitate community awareness campaigns, dialogue sessions and training.
Monitor project progress and collect relevant data for reporting and learning purposes.
Prepare timely activity reports, monthly progress reports, and other project documentation.
Perform any other duties assigned.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
A Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Community Development, Rural Development, or a related field.
A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience in implementing community development or gender-related programmes.
Required Skills and Competencies
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal and networking skills.
Good facilitation and community mobilization skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Good computer literacy.
Experience
At least three (3) years’ experience implementing community development programmes.
Proven experience working with local government structures, traditional leaders, and community-based organizations.
Experience facilitating community trainings, stakeholder engagement meetings, and awareness campaigns.
Experience in project monitoring, documentation and report writing will be an added advantage.
