POSITION. TEACHER OF ENGLISH -
SECONDARY SCHOOL
Location: Blantyre
OVERVIEW
Michiru View Schools invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced and highly motivated candidates for the position of:
TEACHER OF ENGLISH - SECONDARY SCHOOL
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality English Language and Literature instruction and contributing to the academic, co-curricular and pastoral development of learners at secondary school level.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Plan, prepare and deliver effective English lessons in accordance with the national curriculum and school standards.
Teach English Language and Literature at secondary school level, including MSCE classes.
Prepare schemes and records of work, lesson plans, assessments and other required professional records.
Set, administer, mark and analyse tests, examinations and assignments, and provide constructive feedback to learners.
Monitor learners' academic progress and implement appropriate strategies to improve performance.
Prepare and support students for MANEB and other relevant national examinations.
Maintain accurate records of students' attendance, assessment results, discipline and academic progress.
Use appropriate teaching methods, instructional materials and educational technology to promote effective learning.
Participate actively in departmental meetings, staff meetings, school programmes and other professional activities.
Participate in co-curricular activities, including sports, clubs, debating, drama, public speaking and other school activities.
Provide guidance, mentorship and pastoral support to learners and promote good discipline and positive values.
Perform other duties and responsibilities reasonably assigned by the School Administration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must possess:
A Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Education, majoring in Languages (English and Chichewa); or
A Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Humanities, majoring in Philosophy, with a University Certificate of Education (UCE).
A valid Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its recognised equivalent.
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must:
Be registered and licensed with the Teachers Council of Malawi.
Have a minimum of three (3) years' teaching experience at secondary school level.
Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal and classroom management skills.
Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Be highly organised, professional, innovative and committed to academic excellence.
Demonstrate good knowledge of the Malawi secondary school curriculum and examination requirements.
ADDED ADVANTAGES
The following will be added advantages:
Previous experience in teaching and preparing MSCE students, with a proven good track record in national examinations.
Previous experience as a MANEB Examiner or Marker.
Previous management or leadership experience in a secondary school, such as Head of Department, Form Teacher, Deputy Head Teacher or other administrative responsibilities.
Relevant professional training and certifications, including First Aid, CPR, Theatre for Development/Change, Child Protection and Safeguarding, Guidance and Counselling, Psychosocial Support, Inclusive Education, Classroom Management, Digital Literacy and ICT in Education.
Ability to multitask and contribute effectively to various areas of school life.
Ability to participate in and coach students in multiple sports disciplines and other co-curricular activities.
Experience in debating, drama, public speaking, school publications or literary activities will be an added advantage.
