POSITION:HEAD TEACHER - PRIMARY SCHOOL

Location: Blantyre


OVERVIEW

Michiru View Schools invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced, highly motivated and results-oriented candidates for the position of:

HEAD TEACHER – PRIMARY SCHOOL

The successful candidate will provide strategic, professional and instructional leadership to the Primary School and ensure the effective management of teaching and learning, staff, learners, school resources and co-curricular activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Provide effective academic, administrative and professional leadership for the Primary School.

Supervise, monitor and evaluate teaching and learning to ensure high standards of education and improved learner performance.

Coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of school academic programmes, policies and strategic plans.

Supervise teaching and non-teaching staff and ensure the maintenance of high standards of professionalism, discipline and performance.

Conduct staff meetings, appraisals, lesson observations and other supervisory activities to promote continuous professional improvement.

Ensure that schemes and records of work, lesson plans, assessment records and other professional documents are properly prepared and maintained.

Monitor learners' academic progress and implement strategies to improve performance in internal and national examinations.

Maintain effective learner discipline, child safeguarding, welfare and a safe, supportive and inclusive school environment.

Manage and account for school resources, facilities and equipment in accordance with school policies and procedures.

Coordinate communication and positive working relationships among the School Administration, staff, parents, learners and other stakeholders.

Provide leadership and oversight in co-curricular activities, including sports, clubs, cultural activities and other school programmes.

Prepare and submit relevant academic, administrative and management reports. Teach any subject of specialisation in senior classes especially standard 7 & 8 and perform other duties reasonably assigned by the School Administration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess:

A Bachelor's Degree in Primary Education; or

A Diploma in Education from a recognised Institution; or

A recognised Teaching Certificate, with a minimum of five (5) years' experience as a Head Teacher or Deputy Head Teacher at a reputable school, with a proven good track record.

Applicants must also possess a valid Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or its recognised equivalent.

REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must:

Be registered and licensed with the Teachers Council of Malawi.

Demonstrate proven leadership, management, supervisory and organisational skills.

Have strong communication, interpersonal and decision-making skills.

Demonstrate a good understanding of the Malawi primary school curriculum and national examination requirements.

Be highly organised, professional, innovative and committed to academic excellence.

Be able to work effectively with the School Administration, staff, parents, learners and other stakeholders.

Demonstrate the ability to manage staff, learners and school resources effectively.

Be able to work independently and as part of a team.

ADDED ADVANTAGES

The following will be added advantages:

Previous experience in managing and improving academic performance at PSLCE and other primary school levels, with a proven good track record.

Previous experience in a senior management or leadership position at a reputable primary school.

Previous experience as a MANEB Examiner or Marker, particularly at primary school level.

Training in Early Childhood Development (ECD).

Knowledge and/or training in the Montessori Method of Education.

Relevant professional training and certifications, including First Aid, CPR, Child Protection and Safeguarding, Guidance and Counselling, Psychosocial Support, Inclusive Education, Classroom Management, School Leadership and Management, Financial Management, Digital Literacy and ICT in Education.

Ability to multitask and contribute effectively to various areas of school life.

Ability to participate in and supervise multiple sports disciplines and other co-curricular activities.

Experience in community engagement, parent relations, school development and staff capacity building.

Experience in managing pre-school and primary school programmes will be an added advantage.
