POSITION: PART-TIME COMIC BOOK ARTIST

Cultural Comics is looking for Malawian creators!

Cultural Comics is Malawi’s first dedicated digital comics platform, home to original comic series read across the region. We are opening our doors to talented Malawian writers and illustrators who are ready to bring original stories and characters to life.

We are looking for passionate Comic Book Artists / Illustrators to join our growing creative team and help create engaging African comic stories for digital and print audiences.

As a Comic Book Artist, you will be responsible for visually bringing comic stories to life through character design, sequential art, environments, expressions, action scenes, and other comic artwork. For the comics we are looking for strictly BLACK AND WHITE comics with only the cover and other promotional materials being in colour.

WHAT WE OFFER

Royalties on every chapter you publish

A home for your work in print anthologies and on the Cultural Comics platform

Guaranteed cash per chapter made and delivered

Payment of approximately K7,500 to K20,000 per chapter, depending on the number of pages

Chapters can be up to a maximum of 25 pages

An opportunity to contribute to a growing generation of African comics in print and online

PLEASE NOTE: Cultural Comics Logos will be affixed on all printed comics. Printed comics are also all printed on industry standard Newsprint in A5 with a thick glossy cover.

Our creators are building a new generation of African comics, from Eyes to Ascension and Mafumu Athu. We are looking for the next talented artists to join them.

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Must be a Malawian creator

Strong comic book illustration and sequential art skills

Ability to communicate stories visually through characters, expressions, poses, backgrounds, and action

A strong understanding of comic panels, composition, perspective, and visual storytelling

Ability to work from a story, script, or creative pitch

A portfolio demonstrating your artwork and artistic style

Digital illustration skills are an advantage

Passion for African stories, characters, and creative storytelling

Ability to meet agreed deadlines and deliver completed chapters
