POSITION: MECHANIC (2 POSITIONS)

Jackson Engineering Ltd (HEJ) is one of the leading providers of engineering solutions in Malawi and serves all sectors of the economy including mining, energy, agriculture, construction and manufacturing. The company has an urgent requirement for the following Vacancies tenable at its Head Office in Lilongwe: 

Job Title : Mechanic (2)

Nature of Contract : One Year Fixed Term

Duty Station : Lilongwe

Reporting to : Workshop Manager

Department : Workshop

Job Summary

The mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining heavy earthmoving equipment, commercial trucks and light vehicles to ensure optimal performance, safety and reliability. The role requires strong mechanical knowledge, troubleshooting skills and experience with hydraulic, electrical and diesel systems.

Key Responsibilities

Perform repair and maintenance of heavy earthmoving equipment, trucks, small vehicles

Conduct routine inspections to identify wear, damage or potential breakdown risks

Replace faulty parts such as bearings, seals, filters, belts and hoses

Maintain accurate service records and repair documentation

Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and company standards

Perform engine overhauling, gear box and axle repairs

Conduct preventive maintenance and breakdown maintenance as per service schedules

Diagnose mechanical and hydraulic faults and resolve

Ensure minimum downtime and timely repairs at project sites

Perform failure assessment and prepare parts list

Keep tools, equipment and workshop areas clean and organized

Respond to emergency breakdowns on-site when required

Any duties that may be assigned from time to time

Experience

5 to 7 years of experience in the related field for mechanics

1 to 3 years of experience in the related field for junior mechanics

Freshers can apply for trainee mechanic positions

Qualification

Craft or Vocational certificate in automobile mechanics

Strong attention to safety and preventive practices.
