The Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) was established in 1966 under Chapter 18:09 of the Laws of Malawi as a humanitarian organization with a presence in all 29 districts of the country. MRCS is a government-subvented organization mandated to provide relief and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflicts and disasters, alleviate human suffering, and improve the quality of life of vulnerable communities.
MRCS is a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and delivers its mandate through relief and development programmes while upholding and disseminating the Movement’s Fundamental Principles. MRCS invites applications from suitably qualified, motivated, and experienced candidates to fill the following positions at its National Headquarters:
Position: Human Resources Officer
(Corrigendum: The position is Human Resources Associate)
1. Job Summary
Reporting to the Head of Human Resources, the Human Resources Associate will play a key role in strengthening the Human Resources function and fostering a positive, productive, and inclusive work environment within MRCS. The position will support and coordinate core HR functions, including recruitment and staffing, performance management, learning and development, employee relations, occupational health and safety, HR administration, and compliance with labour laws and organisational policies.
2. Key Duties and Responsibilities
The Human Resources Associate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Work closely with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and develop job requirements.
Advertise vacant positions internally and externally.
Screen applications, coordinate interviews, and support the end-to-end recruitment process.
Coordinate and manage the onboarding process for new employees.
Conduct staff orientation sessions in collaboration with relevant departments.
Address employee concerns, complaints, and grievances in a timely and professional manner.
Support conflict resolution and promote effective communication across the organisation.
Foster a positive and harmonious work environment.
Support the implementation of performance appraisal systems.
Assist managers in setting performance goals and expectations.
Support performance improvement plans and follow-up actions.
Identify training needs and coordinate capacity-building programmes.
Support staff learning and career development initiatives.
Ensure compliance with MRCS HR policies and applicable labour legislation.
Monitor HR best practices and relevant legal updates.
Administer employee benefit programmes and respond to benefit-related enquiries.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records in the HRMIS.
Prepare HR documentation and monthly HR reports by the 5th of the following month.
Uphold ethical HR practices and confidentiality at all times.
Address and assist in resolving workplace conflicts.
3. Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Membership of the Institute of People Management of Malawi will be an added advantage.
A minimum of three (3) years’ proven experience in a Human Resources role or a similar position.
4. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
Strong knowledge of labour laws and HR best practices.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
Proficiency in HRIS and Microsoft Office applications.
High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility and adaptability to organizational needs.
