About the Farm
Nditumeni Ambuye Farm is a 60-acre commercial farm specializing in irrigated and rain-fed onion and vegetable production for local, regional, and international markets.
Position: Farm Manager – Onion Production
Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Farm Manager to oversee all aspects of onion production — from nursery to harvest and post-harvest handling. The role focuses on maximizing yield, quality, and profitability while effectively managing staff and farm resources.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan and oversee the full onion production cycle (nursery, transplanting, fertilization, irrigation, pest & disease control, harvesting)
• Develop crop calendars and manage inputs for optimal yield and bulb quality
• Supervise and train field staff; assign tasks and enforce safety standards
• Manage irrigation systems (scheduling, maintenance, efficiency)
• Monitor crop health and implement pest/disease prevention (IPM)
• Oversee post-harvest processes: curing, grading, storage, and market preparation
• Maintain accurate records (costs, yields, inputs, labor)
• Prepare weekly/monthly reports and budgets
• Ensure compliance with GAP and market quality standards
🎓 Requirements
• Minimum 3+ years experience managing commercial onion production
• Strong knowledge of onion agronomy (varieties, soils, irrigation, pests & diseases in Malawi)
• Experience with drip/sprinkler irrigation and mechanized farming
• Ability to manage teams of 10+ field workers
• Certificate/Diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, or Crop Production (preferred)
• Record-keeping and basic budgeting skills (MS Excel or farm software is an advantage)
• Honest, hardworking, and willing to live on-site if required
