POSITION: PLANT SHIFT FOREMAN
Location: Kayelekera, Karonga
OVERVIEW
Lotus Africa seeks to recruit a suitably qualified and motivated individual to the post of a Plant Shift Foreman at Kayelekera Uranium Mine in Karonga.
JOB SUMMARY:
The role is responsible for supervising and coordinating all shift activities within the uranium processing plant to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective production of uranium oxide concentrate (U₃O₈). The foreman leads the shift team, ensuring production, safety, radiation, and environmental targets are achieved while maintaining overall plant performance.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Enforce compliance with Mine Safety Act, Atomic Energy Act, and SHERQ standards
• Apply ALARA principles and monitor contamination and radiation exposure (TLD/EPD)
• Ensure safe handling of reagents including H₂SO₄, H₂O₂, lime, caustic, and flocculants
• Lead shift risk assessments, Take-5s, and permit-to-work systems
• Supervise control room operators, field operators, and contractors
• Conduct pre-start meetings, shift handovers, and task allocation
• Oversee all plant areas: Crushing, Grinding, Acid Leach, RIP, Precipitation, Drying/Calcining, and Packaging
• Monitor SCADA systems to maintain key process parameters (pH, ORP, tailings, etc.)
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE
• MSCE or equivalent qualification
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in control room operations (drying section)
• SCADA operation training
• Minimum 5 years’ experience as Senior Plant Operator (packaging area)
• Training in isolation, confined space, working at heights, and lock-out procedures
• Basic computer skills
