POSITION: SUPERMARKET BUYER

Location: Lilongwe

Department: Procurement / Purchasing

Reports To: CEO

Job Summary

We are looking for a proactive and commercially minded Supermarket Buyer to manage product sourcing, supplier relationships, and stock purchasing for our supermarket operations. The ideal candidate will ensure the availability of quality products at competitive prices while maintaining optimal inventory levels and maximizing profitability.

SUPERMARKET BUYER

Key Responsibilities

Source and purchase supermarket products from local and international suppliers

Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and supplier contracts

Monitor stock levels and coordinate replenishment

Analyse sales trends and customer demand to support purchasing decisions

Ensure timely delivery of products and resolve supply issues

Identify new products and market opportunities

Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and vendors

Work closely with inventory, finance, and store operations teams

Monitor product quality, pricing, and competitor activity

Prepare purchasing reports and forecasts

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Marketing, or related field

Proven experience in retail purchasing or supermarket buying is an advantage

Strong negotiation and communication skills

Good understanding of inventory management and supply chain operations

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and inventory systems

Strong analytical and decision-making abilities

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods)

Knowledge of local supplier networks and wholesale markets

Familiarity with retail ERP or stock management systems
