MVula Piped Water Limited is pioneering a climate-resilient, 100% solar-powered piped water utility at Kandeu (Ntcheu) under the “Utility of the Future” framework. We are recruiting an entrepreneurial, results-driven Commerce and Operations Manager to join immediately at the inception phase.
Core Responsibilities:
- Tariff Engineering: Design cost-reflective, socially equitable tariff models that achieve financial break-even and fund long-term asset depreciation reserves
- Revenue Digitalization: Overhaul cash handling risks by deploying a 100% cashless, prepaid smart-token billing framework integrated with Airtel Money and TNM Mpamba
- Institutional Transition: Manage the legal transitioning of the local operation system into a streamlined commercial private-operator system
- Asset Lifecycle Management: Coordinate with Davis & Shirtliff to enforce preventive maintenance schedules, protecting equipment warranties and ensuring zero breakdown
- Grant Compliance & Audits: Maintain real-time consumption dashboards and monthly revenue reconciliations to satisfy strict audits
Required Profile & Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) from a recognized institution, specializing in Accounting, Finance, or Cost-Accounting
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of managing decentralized commercial operations, rural microfinance networks, or revenue-driven utility portfolios in Malawi
- Technical Skills: Proven hands-on experience with FinTech ecosystems, mobile merchant APIs, automated billing systems, or prepaid electronic utility metering
- Soft Skills: Exceptional negotiation capability to navigate both local and international business management dynamics
Key Performance Targets:
- 96% Collection Efficiency achieved via a completely cashless, prepaid digital payment network
- 1.0+ Operating Cost Coverage Ratio hit within 90 days post commissioning
- 100% Traceable Audit Trail provided to financial auditors
