MLW is seeking qualified and experienced Clinical Officers to join the Infectious Disease Epidemiology (IDE) Group under the CHAMP Drug Study. Successful candidates will work full-time under the supervision of the Project Site Lead.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily surveillance in Under-5 Outpatient Departments and Paediatric Wards to identify enrolled CHAMP Drug Trial participants seeking care.
  • Perform clinical assessments and manage study participants presenting with uncomplicated malaria, severe malaria, serious adverse events (SAEs), and other illnesses according to Ministry of Health and study guidelines.
  • Monitor hospitalized participants and document clinical progress, treatments, outcomes, and discharge details.
  • Record all episodes of uncomplicated malaria and participant hospitalizations during the study period.
  • Identify, document, and report Serious Adverse Events (SAEs) and other safety events according to study protocols.
  • Collect blood slides, filter paper blood spot samples, plasma samples, and ensure proper handling, storage, and documentation.
  • Accurately complete source documents, case report forms, surveillance logs, and study records.
  • Collaborate with Ministry of Health staff, Senior Research Nurses, laboratory personnel, and study team members to ensure quality participant care and data collection.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly surveillance and safety reports.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Senior Research Nurse, Project Site Lead, or Study Investigators.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine.
  • Registered with the Medical Council of Malawi.
  • Minimum of two (2) years relevant clinical experience.
  • Valid Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certification will be an added advantage.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong clinical assessment and patient management skills.
  • Excellent record-keeping and reporting abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to research protocols.
