Job Title: Piping Engineer
Location: Rumphi Project Site
Department: Engineering / Projects
Reports To: Engineering Manager / Project Manager
Job Summary
The Piping Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, testing, and
optimization of piping systems used in industrial, manufacturing, water supply, energy, mining,
and construction projects. The role ensures that piping systems comply with engineering
standards, safety regulations, project specifications, and operational requirements.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Design and Engineering
• Develop piping layouts, drawings, specifications, and engineering calculations.
• Prepare piping material specifications and bill of quantities (BOQs).
• Conduct stress analysis and hydraulic calculations where required.
• Review and approve piping designs prepared by contractors and consultants.
• Ensure compliance with applicable engineering codes and standards.
Project Management
• Participate in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling activities.
• Coordinate piping installation activities with contractors and other engineering
disciplines.
• Monitor project progress and ensure completion within approved timelines and
budgets.
• Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with design specifications.
Operations and Maintenance
• Provide technical support for existing piping systems.
• Investigate piping failures and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop preventive maintenance programs for piping infrastructure.
• Support plant shutdowns, commissioning, and start-up activities.
Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance
• Ensure all piping systems comply with occupational health and safety regulations.
• Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses related to piping installations.
• Promote safe work practices and adherence to company HSE policies.
• Participate in safety audits and incident investigations.
Quality Assurance
• Review welding procedures, inspection reports, and testing documentation.
• Coordinate pressure testing, leak testing, and system commissioning.
• Ensure all work complies with quality management standards and project
specifications.
• Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related
engineering discipline.
• Registration with the relevant engineering regulatory body is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 3–5 years' experience in piping engineering, industrial projects,
construction, mining, manufacturing, water treatment, or energy sectors.
• Experience with piping design software and engineering drawings.
Knowledge and Skills
• Knowledge of piping codes and standards such as ASME, ANSI, API, and ISO
standards.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Plant 3D, CADWorx, or similar design software.
• Understanding of welding, fabrication, and pressure testing requirements.
• Strong project management and coordination skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication and report-writing skills.
• Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
