ABOUT THE ROLE
Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) is the premier provider of housing and ancillary services in Malawi, established by the Malawi Housing Act of 1964 (cap. 32.02). Our mandate is to construct houses, develop plots, and maintain existing properties. In December 2016, the act was amended to allow the Corporation to operate as a commercial entity, expanding our role in providing decent and affordable housing.
We are seeking highly qualified and experienced professionals to fill the position of Assistant Accountant (12). The ideal candidate will possess a strong combination of academic excellence, professional certifications, proven experience, and the specific competencies required to drive our strategic objectives.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
• Diploma in Accounting, Finance or related field from a recognised institution.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance will be an added advantage.
• At least 2-3 years of work experience.
• Experience in accounts receivable, revenue collection, bank reconciliations and financial reporting is an advantage.
• Experience working with property rental or tenant accounting systems will be an added advantage.
• Experience in computerised accounting.
• Self-starter with high levels of integrity and honesty.
• Focused and attention to detail.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of legislations and regulations on Public Finance Management.
• Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others.
• Ability to give and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records in accordance with approved accounting policies and procedures.
• Record accounting transactions in the appropriate ledgers and accounting systems.
• Assist in maintaining the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end and year-end accounting procedures.
• Assist in preparing revenue collection reports.
• Process payment vouchers for review and approval.
• Ensure that expenditure is charged to the correct account and cost centre.
• Monitor outstanding invoices and prepare creditors’ ageing schedules.
• Prepare bank reconciliation statements on a timely basis.
• Assist in monitoring daily bank balances and cash movements.
• Assist in monitoring electronic funds transfers and other approved payment methods.
• Prepare accounting schedules and supporting working papers for financial reports.
• Prepare revenue, expenditure, receivables and creditors reports as required.
