POSITION: SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

Location: Balaka

ABOUT THE ROLE

Andiamo Secondary School is seeking suitably qualified teachers to teach the following subject combinations:

• History and Geography

• Social Studies and Geography

• Social Studies and Bible Knowledge

• English and Chichewa

• Mathematics and Physics

• Chemistry and Mathematics

• Agriculture and Biology

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• A minimum of a Diploma in Education from a recognised institution.

• A Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), Bachelor of Science in Education (BSc Ed.), Bachelor of Arts in Education (BA Ed.) or equivalent relevant teaching qualification will be an added advantage.

• Registered with Teachers Council of Malawi (TCM).

• Appropriate subject specialisation for the subject combination being applied for.

• Ability to teach the relevant subjects up to MSCE level.

• At least three (3) years' teaching experience in a secondary school will be an added advantage.

• Experience teaching the Malawi National Secondary School Curriculum.

• Excellent command of written and spoken English.

• Good classroom management and learner-centred teaching skills.

• Ability to use assessment results to improve learner performance.

• Good computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

• Ability to offer at least one co-curricular activity.

• Strong communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.

• High levels of professionalism, integrity, commitment and responsibility.

• Ability to work effectively with learners of different abilities and backgrounds.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Planning and delivering effective lessons in accordance with the Malawi National Secondary School Curriculum.

• Preparing schemes of work, lesson plans, teaching and learning materials.

• Using appropriate learner-centred teaching methodologies.

• Teaching assigned subjects effectively and in English and/or Chichewa where appropriate.

• Conducting continuous assessment, tests, examinations and other forms of learner assessment.

• Marking students' work and providing constructive feedback.

• Maintaining accurate records of students' marks, attendance and academic progress.

• Preparing students adequately for school examinations and MSCE examinations.

• Analysing students' academic performance and developing appropriate interventions for learners who need additional support.

• Maintaining discipline in accordance with the school's rules and regulations.

• Promoting good behaviour, personal responsibility and positive values among learners.

• Providing guidance and support to learners where appropriate.

• Maintaining neatness and proper standards in students' exercise books and other learning materials.

• Participating in departmental meetings, staff meetings and school activities.

• Participating in sports, clubs and other co-curricular activities.

• Assisting with school events, educational trips and other learner development programmes.

• Maintaining professional relationships with students, colleagues, parents and guardians.

• Ensuring regular attendance and punctuality.

• Contributing to the overall development and improvement of the school.

• Performing any other relevant duties assigned by the Head Teacher or Management.
