POSITION: HEAD TEACHER

Location: Balaka

ABOUT THE ROLE

Andiamo Secondary School invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced, committed and results-oriented Malawian professionals to fill the position of Head Teacher. The successful candidate will provide overall academic, administrative and professional leadership of the school.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• A Bachelor's Degree in Education or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification from an accredited institution.

• Registered with Teachers Council of Malawi (TCM).

• A valid teaching qualification and experience in the Malawi secondary school education system.

• At least five (5) years' experience in teaching, with at least three (3) years in a school leadership or management position.

• Demonstrable experience in curriculum implementation, teacher supervision and academic quality improvement.

• Sound knowledge of the Malawi National Secondary School Curriculum and MSCE examination requirements.

• Excellent written and spoken English.

• Strong leadership, communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.

• Ability to mentor, motivate and inspire teachers and learners.

• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

• Ability to analyse academic performance data and develop appropriate improvement strategies.

• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

• High levels of integrity, professionalism, commitment and accountability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Providing effective academic and administrative leadership to the school.

• Ensuring effective implementation of the Malawi National Secondary School Curriculum.

• Developing and implementing the school's academic plans, policies and improvement strategies.

• Providing leadership in curriculum planning, teaching, learning and assessment.

• Monitoring the preparation and implementation of schemes of work, lesson plans and teaching programmes.

• Conducting classroom observations and providing constructive feedback to teachers.

• Monitoring students' academic progress and introducing appropriate interventions for underperforming learners.

• Ensuring effective preparation of students for Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations.

• Monitoring assessment, marking, grading and maintenance of students' academic records.

• Promoting high standards of discipline, attendance, punctuality and academic performance among both staff and students.

• Supporting and mentoring teachers to improve teaching methodologies and professional performance.

• Coordinating staff meetings, departmental meetings and other academic activities.

• Working closely with Heads of Departments to strengthen teaching and learning.

• Ensuring effective guidance and counselling and provision of appropriate pastoral care to students.

• Promoting the welfare, safety and safeguarding of all learners.

• Maintaining effective communication with parents, guardians, staff, management and other stakeholders.

• Coordinating admissions and ensuring that the school maintains appropriate academic and enrolment standards.

• Overseeing co-curricular activities, including sports, clubs and other learner development programmes.

• Ensuring proper management and utilisation of teaching and learning resources.

• Working with Management to identify and procure appropriate textbooks, laboratory equipment and other educational materials.

• Preparing and submitting academic and administrative reports to Management as required.

• Promoting teamwork, professionalism, integrity and a positive school culture.

• Ensuring compliance with relevant Ministry of Education requirements and school policies.

• Representing the school in relevant educational and community engagements.

• Performing any other relevant duties as assigned by Management.
