POSITION: COUNSELLOR – HIV TESTING AND COUNSELLING (HTC)
Location: Nchalo, Malawi
ABOUT THE POSITION
Illovo Sugar (Malawi) plc is seeking a qualified and experienced Counsellor – HTC to provide confidential and professional HIV testing and counselling services to employees, dependents and other eligible clients.
The successful candidate will support HIV prevention, early diagnosis, linkage to treatment and adherence to care while promoting awareness and reducing HIV-related stigma.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should possess the following:
- Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent.
- Certificate in HIV Testing and Counselling from a recognised institution.
- 2–3 years of experience in HIV testing and counselling, psychosocial counselling, ART support or community health services.
- Knowledge of HIV prevention, testing algorithms, counselling ethics and referral pathways.
- Strong interpersonal, counselling, listening and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide HIV testing and counselling services to employees, dependents and eligible clients.
- Support HIV prevention, early diagnosis, linkage to treatment and adherence to care.
- Promote HIV awareness, reduce stigma and provide patient education.
- Conduct risk-reduction counselling and HIV prevention education for individuals, couples, groups and workplace audiences.
- Ensure that all client information and HIV test results remain strictly confidential.
