Agricane Malawi Ltd is inviting applications from qualified and motivated individuals to work at an Agricultural Research and Innovation Hub in Chikwawa. The hub aims to support commercial and smallholder farmers in the Lower Shire Basin through crop research, agronomy, irrigation, and extension services.

The following positions are available:

Research Manager

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the research station operations, including field and administrative staff

• Develop and manage the annual research plan and budget

• Oversee on-station and off-station trials including community-based research

• Supervise planting, irrigation, crop husbandry, harvesting, and data analysis

• Produce seasonal research reports

• Maintain partnerships with government institutions, CGIARs, and private sector partners

• Organize field days, demonstrations, and farmer learning sessions

• Manage vehicles, machinery, tools, and irrigation infrastructure

Requirements

• Minimum BSc in Agriculture

• At least 5 years experience in commercial agriculture or agricultural research

• Experience in release of new crop varieties

• Strong knowledge of statistical analysis of randomized trials

• Practical knowledge of furrow, drip, and pivot irrigation systems

• Experience working with crops in semi-arid African environments

• Clean driver’s licence and medically fit

• Ability to work in rural areas and engage with smallholder farmers
