About AERA
The Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (AERA) is Malawi's Nuclear and Radiation Regulatory Body responsible for protecting people and the environment from the harmful effects of ionizing radiation through effective regulation and oversight.
Purpose of the Job
To implement dosimetry and instrumentation services and support radiation monitoring and safety programmes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain, calibrate, and test radiation detection and measurement instruments.
- Record, analyze, and interpret dosimetry data.
- Prepare periodic radiation exposure reports.
- Monitor occupational radiation exposure using personal dosimeters.
- Identify faults in instruments and coordinate repairs and servicing.
- Provide technical support and training on radiation monitoring equipment.
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety standards and regulations.
- Maintain inventory records of radiation monitoring equipment and accessories.
- Investigate abnormal dosimetry readings and report findings.
- Assist in developing and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Biomedical Engineering or Industrial Laboratory Technology from an NCHE-recognized institution.
- Minimum of two (2) years' proven experience in dosimetry, instrumentation, and radiation safety and security.
