About the Role
Vanguard Life Assurance Company Limited, a leading and high-performing financial services institution incorporated in Malawi, invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Legal Intern.
The successful candidate will provide legal support and advisory services to the company by ensuring compliance with insurance, pension, corporate, and other applicable laws and regulations. The Legal Intern will assist in managing legal risks, reviewing contracts, supporting corporate governance activities, supporting litigation management, and ensuring that company operations are conducted within the applicable legal and regulatory framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions, reports, and recommendations.
- Interpret legislation, regulations, and industry guidelines relevant to the insurance and pension sectors.
- Advise business units on legal implications of products, services, and strategic initiatives.
- Monitor compliance with insurance, pension, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), data protection, and other regulatory requirements.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage contracts, agreements, and legal documents.
- Support corporate governance activities, including maintenance of statutory records and board/committee documentation.
- Assist in managing litigation, arbitration, mediation, and dispute resolution processes.
- Review policy wordings, pension fund documentation, trust deeds, and scheme rules.
- Provide legal support for product development, business transactions, and investments.
- Conduct legal and compliance awareness training for staff.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must possess:
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from a recognized institution.
- Admission to practice law in Malawi.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a legal, compliance, corporate governance, insurance, pension, financial services, or related environment.
