Job Title: Transit Concrete Mixer Operators (2)

Nature of Contract: 12 months Fixed Term

Duty Station: Rumphi

Reporting to: Site Manager/Site Agent/Plant & Workshop Manager

Department: Construction

JOB SUMMARY

The Transit Concrete Mixer Operator is responsible for safely operating and maintaining a

concrete mixer truck to transport and deliver ready-mix concrete from the batching plant to

construction sites. The operator must ensure concrete is delivered safely, efficiently, and within

the required quality and timing specifications.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Operate the transit concrete mixer truck safely and efficiently.

• Transport ready-mixed concrete from the batching plant to designated construction

sites.

• Follow the correct loading, mixing, transportation, and discharge procedures.

• Ensure the concrete remains properly mixed during transportation.

• Position the mixer truck safely for concrete discharge at the construction site.

• Follow instructions from the batching plant, site supervisor, and concrete crew.

• Conduct daily pre-start inspections of the truck, mixer drum, hydraulic system, tyres,

brakes, lights, and other components.

• Report mechanical faults, damage, or safety concerns immediately.

• Carry out basic routine maintenance such as lubrication, cleaning, and checking fluid

levels.

• Thoroughly wash and clean the mixer drum and discharge equipment after each

operation.

• Maintain accurate records of deliveries, quantities, locations, and operating hours.

• Observe all company health, safety, environmental, and traffic regulations.

• Drive defensively and comply with Malawi road traffic laws.

• Assist with other reasonable transport or site duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience

• Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent is an advantage.

• Valid Class C or appropriate heavy-goods vehicle driving licence in Malawi.

• Valid defensive-driving training/certificate is an advantage.

• At least 2–3 years of experience operating heavy vehicles, preferably transit concrete

mixers.

• Previous experience in a construction or ready-mix concrete company is highly

desirable.

• Good knowledge of vehicle safety and basic mechanical checks.

• Ability to work effectively on construction sites and under pressure.

Skills and Competencies

• Knowledge of concrete mixer operation and discharge procedures.

• Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills.

• Good communication and teamwork.

• Reliable, punctual, and responsible.

• Ability to follow instructions and maintain accurate records.

• Physically fit and able to work flexible hours when required.

• Careful handling of company vehicles and equipment.
