POSITION: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF COMMERCE

Location: Blantyre


OVERVIEW

The Local Government Service Commission is inviting applications from suitable qualified Malawians to fill the following vacant positions existing at BLANTYRE CITY COUNCIL.

POST: Assistant Director of Commerce

GRADE: M3

SALARY: In line with Terms and Conditions of Service for Blantyre City Council

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess a minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Business Management, Economics, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, or an equivalent relevant qualification obtained from an accredited and recognized university plus five (5) years’ relevant post-qualification working experience in commerce, trade, business development, investment promotion, economic development, marketing, or a related field

DUTIES

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:

Assisting the Director of Commerce in the planning, coordination and implementation of the Council’s commercial and trade development programs.

Developing and implementing strategies for promoting trade, commerce, investment and business development within the Council’s jurisdiction.

Coordinating the registration, licensing and monitoring of businesses and commercial activities in accordance with applicable laws, policies and regulations.

Monitoring commercial activities, markets and trading premises to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards and Council by-laws.

Promoting local economic development through support to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), cooperatives, entrepreneurs and other private-sector actors.

Coordinating the development and management of markets and other commercial facilities under the jurisdiction of the Council.

Advising the Council on matters relating to trade, commerce, investment, markets, business development and local economic development.

Monitoring revenue collection from commercial activities and Council trading facilities and recommending measures for improving revenue performance.
