Reports to: Director of Research and Educational Quality Assurance (DREQA)
Call for Applications
The University is pleased to announce that it has secured funding to support the establishment
and growth of its Postgraduate Studies and Research Centre. In line with this development,
applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the positions of Centre Administrators.
These appointments will be offered on three years contractual basis, with the possibility of renewal
subject to the continued availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
Position Overview
The Hara Research Centre (HRC) is a theological research institution dedicated to advancing
contextually relevant scholarship in Malawi and Southern Africa. We are seeking a detail-oriented
part-time Administrator to serve as the operational backbone of our research initiatives. This role
focuses on coordinating academic output, providing mentorship, and managing research grant
proposals to enhance Zomba Theological University's educational profile.
Key Responsibilities
1. Research Coordination & Support (Primary Focus)
Faculty & Student
Facilitation: Facilitate and coordinate theological research initiatives
conducted by faculty, students, and affiliates.
Postgraduate Mentorship: Provide administrative coordination for mentorship programs and direct research support to postgraduate researchers
Grant Management: Actively assist in the development of research grant proposals and
manage the administration of funded projects.
Quality Assurance: Work closely with the DREQA and the Dean of Postgraduate Studies to ensure all research aligns with university's academic frameworks.
2. Publications & Scholarly Output
Journal Management: Assist in the development and maintenance of the Centre’s
institutional research journal or bulletin.
Editorial Support: Encourage and support the publication of books, peer-reviewed
articles, and policy papers.
Conference Proceedings: Coordinate the collection and publication of scholarly papers
and proceedings from national and regional conferences.
3. Events & Academic Programming
Lecture Series: Provide logistical support for the bi-annual Hara Lecture Series and other
public theological lectures.
Conferences: Organise and manage the logistics for regular academic conferences
focused on theology and related disciplines.
4. Governance & Financial Administration.
Reporting: Prepare annual reports detailing research outcomes, activities, and financial
statements for university authorities.
Compliance:
Manage financial tasks in strict adherence to the policies and procedures of
Zomba Theological University.
Partner Support: Provide secondary administrative assistance for established regional
and international partnerships as required.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Theology, Social Sciences, or a related
field.
Research Knowledge: Strong understanding of academic research processes, grant
application procedures, and scholarly publishing.
Skills: Exceptional organisational skills with a focus on project and data management.
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google tools (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides) and database management. Preferably experience with
other academic software such as Zotero.
o High level of proficiency in technical writing and report preparation.
o Commitment to the legacy of Rev. Dr. Handwell Hara and the promotion of Malawian theological scholarship.
Working Conditions
Hours: Full-time.
Location: Based on-site at the Zomba Theological University campus in Zomba
