Location: Blantyre (with frequent support to Lilongwe)

Reporting to: Programs Manager

Contract Type: Full-time | Renewable

Rays of Hope Ministries is a local nonprofit organization collaborating with the Government of Malawi in education and social interventions. In partnership with Splash International and GENET, Rays of Hope is implementing the WASH in Schools for Everyone (WISE) Project in 181 public schools across Lilongwe and Blantyre cities.

Background:

The WISE Project aims to improve sanitation facilities in schools, benefiting girls' menstrual health, increasing school attendance, and improving learning outcomes. Rays of Hope focuses on the Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) management component.

Role Summary:

The Program Coordinator (Project Lead) will manage the school-based WASH component of the WISE Project, providing technical oversight, implementing behavior change interventions, and overseeing overall project management.

Key Areas of Accountability:

Stakeholder Engagement:

· Reinforce collaboration among project partners including Ministries of Education and Health, NGOs, and local communities

· Facilitate co-design and joint implementation with government stakeholders

· Represent the program in high-level engagements

Program Design and Delivery:

· Provide leadership in the design and execution of WASH initiatives

· Ensure project is implemented on time, within budget, and with quality

· Mobilize students and staff to create functional WASH clubs

Technical Leadership:

· Ensure WASH initiatives operate within a continuous feedback loop

· Lead, coordinate, and monitor field officers and key stakeholders

· Oversee application of WASH practices for effective behavior change

Quality Assurance, Learning, and Adaptive Management:

· Establish quality assurance systems to monitor implementation fidelity

· Institute systematic collection and analysis of program data

· Lead structured reflection and learning processes

Team, Program and Community Delivery Oversight:

· Provide strategic guidance and support to staff

· Lead program planning, work planning, budgeting, and implementation scheduling

· Strengthen technical capacity of program teams

· Identify and manage program risks

Reporting, Knowledge Management, and Strategic Communication:

· Ensure timely production of high-quality program reports (monthly, quarterly, annual)

· Support consolidation of program data into dashboards and knowledge products

Qualifications:

· Degree in Water Engineering, Environmental Health, Public Health, or closely related field

· Demonstrated technical leadership experience in managerial positions in health-related programs

· Minimum 3–5 years of progressive experience in health projects focusing on WASH programming (school or institutional WASH preferred)

· Deep understanding of water and sanitation hygiene issues in primary schools in Malawi

· Strong oral and written communication skills in English

· Computer literacy
