About MLW
The Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Research Programme (MLW) is an internationally recognized centre for research and training funded by the Wellcome Trust in collaboration with key partners including Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS), Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM), and the University of Liverpool (UoL). MLW is dedicated to improving health outcomes through high-quality research and training in Malawi and beyond.
MLW is inviting applications from qualified and experienced individuals to fill 78 positions for Research Assistants – Clinical (Research Nurses and Medical Assistants) under the CHAMP Drug Study based in Mwanza.
Reporting To
Senior Research Nurses
Key Responsibilities
- Support community and health facility-based study activities according to study protocols.
- Conduct household mapping and community census activities.
- Screen study participants and obtain informed consent.
- Assist with participant enrolment and randomisation procedures.
- Administer study medication and maintain accurate records.
- Monitor participants for adverse events and report findings promptly.
- Conduct participant follow-up visits and support health facility surveillance.
- Collect, label, document, and transport study samples.
- Capture and manage electronic study data using tablets.
- Resolve data queries and ensure data quality.
- Support community engagement and awareness activities.
- Maintain study equipment, consumables, and field resources.
- Ensure participant confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Attend study trainings, meetings, and other assigned activities.
- Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications and Experience
Research Nurses
- Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery Technician from a recognized institution.
- Registered with the Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi.
- Minimum of 2 years relevant clinical experience.
Medical Assistants
- Certificate in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution.
- Registered with the Medical Council of Malawi.
- Minimum of 2 years relevant clinical experience.
Resources Managed
- Tablets and electronic data collection devices.
- Study drugs and sample collection materials.
- Study consumables and field equipment.
