POSITION: COMMUNITY BASED FINANCIAL ORGANISATION OFFICERS 


OVERVIEW 

Wealthnet Finance PLC is registered by the Reserve Bank of Malawi as a Deposit-Taking Microfinance Institution. The institution seeks a visionary and innovative leader with strong financial and community/people skills to serve as Community Based Financial Organisation Officers across selected districts in Malawi. The ideal candidates must possess a deep understanding of banking and microfinance operations, group facilitation and training/coaching.

Job Purpose

The Community Based Financial Organisation Officers will be responsible for implementing field-based programs focused on community engagement, digital adoption,

and facilitation initiatives. The role combines community mobilization, user growth activities, and merchant engagement to drive adoption, usage, and sustainability of digital and other related services in target communities.

Key Responsibilities

1. Field Implementation & Community Mobilization and CBFO Development

Lead implementation of community-based programs in assigned areas.

Mobilize and engage community members, Village Savings and Loans Associations (VSLAs), Cooperatives, farmers’ organisations and other Community-Based Financial Organisations (CBFOs) and local stakeholders to ensure active participation.

Conduct sensitization and awareness campaigns to support program uptake.

Conduct training and capacity building sessions in governance, financial management, savings mobilization, loan management, record keeping and business development. Facilitate linkages between VSLAs, cooperatives, farmer groups and Wealthnet Finance products and services.

Coordinate with local leadership structures to ensure smooth execution of field activities.

2. User Growth & Activation

Drive user onboarding, activation, and consistent usage of digital services in communities.

Improve user engagement rates, including increasing active usage and transaction participation through mobile-based platforms.

Support adoption of digital channels among rural and semi-urban populations.

Identify barriers to usage and recommend practical solutions to improve adoption.

3. Merchant Engagement & Local Market Development

Engage and onboard local merchants to support service usage and acceptance.

Promote active participation of merchants in digital transactions.

Support growth in transaction volumes through continuous merchant follow-up and relationship management.

Strengthen linkages between users and local business ecosystems.

4. Revenue & Performance Support

Contribute to growth of transaction-based revenue streams through increased usage and merchant activity.

Monitor field performance indicators such as usage rates, transaction activity, and merchant participation.

Provide feedback on revenue performance trends and field challenges.

5. Local Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement

Serve as the key liaison between communities and the organization.

Work closely with community leaders, groups, and partners to support program success.

Resolve field-level challenges and escalate issues where necessary.

Ensure effective communication between field operations and head office teams.

6. Reporting & Documentation

Prepare regular reports on field activities, user activation, and merchant engagement.

Collect and submit accurate data for monitoring and evaluation purposes.

Provide insights on field performance and improvement areas.

Qualifications & Requirements

Degree in Economics, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Microfinance and Entrepreneurship, Agricultural Economics, Agriculture Extension, Agribusiness Management, Agricultural Education or Agricultural Extension

At least 5 years of practical experience in community mobilization, cooperative/VSLA management, rural/agricultural finance, microfinance, capacity building and training programs for community based organisations

Excellent training, facilitation and curriculum development skills

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently in field environments.

Basic understanding of digital services and customer engagement is an added advantage.
