The company is seeking an experienced, analytical, disciplined, self-motivated, proactive, and hardworking professional to fill the position of Assistant Accountant based at its Lilongwe office.
Job Description
The Assistant Accountant will support the finance function by ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining financial records, supporting tax compliance, and assisting with budgeting and financial controls.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports and statements.
- Support MRA tax remittances and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
- Assist in implementing and monitoring internal controls.
- Support risk management processes and financial compliance initiatives.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
- Prepare and reconcile bank accounts regularly.
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Verify and process financial transactions accurately.
- Assist with audit preparations and respond to audit queries.
- Maintain proper filing systems for financial records.
- Support management with financial data analysis and reporting.
- Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy or a related accounting field with relevant practical experience.
- Candidates with a Diploma in Accounting and relevant practical experience are encouraged to apply.
- Minimum of five (5) years' relevant accounting experience.
- Sound knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Experience in tax compliance and statutory reporting.
- Knowledge of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Experience in bank reconciliations and financial record management.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- High level of integrity, discipline, and accountability.
