POSITION: EXCAVATOR OPERATOR (2 POSITIONS)

The company has a vacancy at one of its Project Sites in Rumphi as follows:

Job Title: Excavator Operator (2)

Nature of Contract: 12 months Fixed Term

Duty Station: Rumphi

Reporting to: Construction Manager/Project Manager

Department: Construction/Civil Engineering

Job Summary

To operate excavators and related heavy machinery for excavation, trenching, loading, grading, demolition, and

material handling activities while ensuring safety, productivity, and equipment maintenance.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Operate excavators according to project specifications and safety regulations.

• Dig trenches, foundations, drainage channels, and other excavations.

• Load soil, rocks, and construction materials onto trucks or designated areas.

• Perform land clearing, grading, and leveling activities.

• Conduct daily pre-start inspections of equipment.

• Report mechanical faults and maintenance requirements promptly.

• Maintain equipment cleanliness and operational condition.

• Follow site safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Read and interpret site plans, drawings, and instructions from supervisors.

• Work closely with site engineers, supervisors, and other construction personnel.

• Ensure efficient fuel usage and minimize equipment downtime.

• Complete daily equipment operation logs and reports.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) or equivalent.

• Valid Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate or relevant vocational training.

• Minimum of 2–5 years' experience operating excavators (depending on employer requirements).

• Good understanding of construction or mining operations.

• Knowledge of occupational health and safety standards.

• Ability to perform basic equipment maintenance checks.

• Physically fit and able to work in demanding site conditions.
