POSITION: ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL SAFEGUARDS SPECIALIST – MALAWI



OVERVIEW

Jimat Development Consultants is seeking a qualified and experienced Environmental and Social Safeguards Specialist based in Malawi to support the implementation and oversight of environmental and social safeguards in development projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, or a related field At least 5 years of professional experience managing environmental and social safeguards in donor-funded projects

Required Technical Expertise

The successful candidate should demonstrate experience in:

Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA)

Development and implementation of Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs)

Environmental and social risk identification, mitigation, and compliance monitoring

Stakeholder engagement, community consultation, and grievance redress mechanisms

Gender equality, social inclusion, and protection of vulnerable groups

Monitoring, reporting, and compliance with donor safeguard requirements

Application of national and international environmental and social safeguard frameworks and standards

Desired Competencies

Strong analytical, technical, and report-writing skills

Experience working with government institutions, development partners, NGOs, and community-based organizations

Sound understanding of gender, equity, disability inclusion, and social protection principles

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments
