OVERVIEW

Drop of Compassion (DOC) is a UK-based charity committed to creating sustainable change. Since 2013, DOC has been actively working in Malawi by partnering with local organizations to empower communities and improve lives through transformative projects. These initiatives include constructing health and maternity clinics in remote villages, developing irrigation systems, building and managing primary and secondary schools, providing emergency relief during natural disasters, and drilling boreholes.

We are seeking to recruit a suitably qualified, highly motivated, and hardworking individual for the position of Multipurpose Centre Project Coordinator. This is a full-time position based in Malawi and is focused on coordinating the implementation of the Seeds of Hope Project across three pilot multipurpose centres. The appointment is contingent upon performance and the availability of funds.

Job Summary

The Multipurpose Centre Project Coordinator will lead, coordinate, and monitor the implementation of all Seeds of Hope Project activities across the three pilot centres: Mandimwe and two additional project sites. The role involves overseeing construction activities, programme delivery, vocational training initiatives, agricultural development, community engagement, feeding programmes, and Islamic learning activities.

The post holder will ensure that project activities are effectively planned, implemented, monitored, and reported while maintaining strong relationships with communities, stakeholders, and DOC leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities

Duties shall include, but are not limited to, the following:

Project Planning, Coordination and Implementation

Coordinate day-to-day implementation of all Seeds of Hope Project activities across the three centres

Prepare work plans, procurement schedules, implementation timelines, and activity plans

Ensure effective coordination between construction teams, community committees, teachers, Imams, vocational trainers, and agricultural officers

Track project progress using ZOHO or other DOC project management systems

Ensure all activities are implemented in accordance with approved project plans, budgets, and donor requirements

Construction Oversight

Monitor construction of multipurpose centre infrastructure, including madrassahs, musallahs, nurseries, kitchens, toilets, storage facilities, and staff housing

Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, workmanship quality, safety standards, and adherence to approved budgets and timelines

Verify project milestones and prepare construction progress reports

Programme Delivery Coordination

Support the establishment and operation of madrassah programmes, nursery classes, feeding programmes, and dawah activities

Coordinate stipend and payroll administration for Imams, teachers, and project staff

Ensure timely availability of learning materials, feeding supplies, and programme resources

Vocational Training Coordination

Coordinate vocational skills training programmes, including carpentry, bricklaying, plumbing, tailoring, mechanics, and solar energy installation and repair

Support trainee recruitment, attendance monitoring, procurement of training materials, and trainee assessments

Liaise with vocational instructors to ensure quality training delivery

Agricultural and Irrigation Development

Work closely with the Department of Water and Irrigation and other stakeholders to facilitate farmer training and irrigation activities

Support community-based agricultural initiatives, crop diversification programmes, horticulture training, and value addition projects

Ensure timely implementation of agricultural training activities throughout cropping cycles

Community Engagement and Stakeholder Relations

Act as the principal liaison between DOC/MAT and community stakeholders, including village chiefs, religious leaders, parents, farmers, youth groups, and women's groups

Organize sensitization meetings and mobilize community participation in project activities

Strengthen community ownership and sustainability mechanisms for the project

Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting

Monitor project outputs and outcomes across all project sites

Maintain accurate records, attendance registers, beneficiary databases, and activity trackers

Support baseline, midline, and endline data collection exercises

Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and donor reports as required

Identify implementation challenges and recommend corrective actions

Financial Oversight and Compliance

Monitor project expenditures and ensure activities remain within approved budgets

Ensure proper accountability procedures, documentation, and record keeping

Report budget variances and compliance issues to the Country Operations Manager

Staff and Volunteer Coordination

Support recruitment, orientation, and supervision of project staff, teachers, Imams, vocational trainers, and volunteers

Ensure staff and volunteers clearly understand their roles, responsibilities, and schedules

Other Responsibilities

Perform any other duties assigned by the Country Operations Manager or Directors that contribute to successful project implementation

Uphold DOC values, safeguarding standards, organizational policies, and Islamic ethical principles at all times

Requirements

Interested candidates should possess the following qualifications and competencies:

Bachelor's Degree in Project Management, Development Studies, Community Development, Education, Agriculture, Civil Engineering, Social Sciences, or a related field

Minimum of three (3) years' experience coordinating community development, education, livelihood, agricultural, or infrastructure projects

Demonstrated experience in project planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting

Experience supervising construction projects and working with contractors and community structures

Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder engagement skills

Experience working with rural communities and community-based development initiatives

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and project management systems

Ability to prepare high-quality technical and narrative reports

Willingness and ability to travel frequently between project sites

Knowledge of agricultural development, vocational training programmes, or Islamic community development initiatives will be an added advantage

Possession of a valid motorcycle or driver's licence will be an added advantage
