POSITION: PHARMACIST
Location: Lilongwe
OVERVIEW
Sunrise Pharmaceuticals Limited has commenced new operations under new management in Lilongwe and is seeking a qualified and experienced Pharmacist to provide professional pharmaceutical services, ensure safe dispensing of medicines, advise customers and patients, maintain regulatory compliance, and protect the quality and safety of pharmaceutical products.
In the modern healthcare environment, the Pharmacist is not only responsible for dispensing medicines, but also for patient safety, medicine counselling, pharmacovigilance, digital record keeping, stock control, compliance, ethical practice, and supporting the growth of a trusted pharmaceutical business.
Reports To: Pharmaceuticals Manager
Key Responsibilities
Dispense medicines accurately, safely, and professionally in accordance with prescriptions, applicable laws, and pharmacy standards
Review prescriptions to ensure correct dosage, medicine suitability, possible interactions, contraindications, and patient safety
Provide professional advice to customers and patients on medicine use, dosage, side effects, storage, and general health guidance
Ensure that prescription-only medicines, controlled medicines, and other regulated products are handled strictly according to applicable regulations
Maintain proper records of prescriptions, sales, controlled medicines, stock movement, expired items, and regulatory documents
Monitor medicine quality, storage conditions, expiry dates, batch numbers, and cold chain requirements
Support stock control by checking stock levels, identifying slow-moving items, reporting expiries, and recommending reordering needs
Ensure the pharmacy premises are clean, organized, safe, and compliant with professional standards
Report adverse drug reactions, product quality issues, suspected counterfeit products, and medicine safety concerns where required
Work with the Pharmaceuticals Manager to ensure PMRA compliance, licensing standards, inspections, and regulatory readiness
Train and supervise pharmacy assistants, sales staff, and support staff on medicine handling, customer service, and ethical conduct
Maintain confidentiality of patient and customer information at all times
Use pharmacy systems, digital stock records, Excel, and reporting tools to maintain accurate and modern pharmacy operations
Support customer service, business growth, and the professional reputation of Sunrise Pharmaceuticals
Prevent unauthorized dispensing, stock misuse, medicine wastage, expired product sales, and unethical practices
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Pharmacy Degree or equivalent recognized pharmacy qualification
Must be registered or eligible for registration as a pharmacist with the relevant pharmacy regulatory authority in Malawi
Must hold or be able to obtain the required practicing license or professional authorization in accordance with applicable PMRA requirements
Additional training in clinical pharmacy, community pharmacy, pharmacovigilance, pharmaceutical supply chain, or healthcare management will be an added advantage
Required Experience
Minimum of 2 to 4 years' experience as a practicing Pharmacist in a retail pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, wholesale pharmacy, clinic, pharmaceutical company, or healthcare setting
Experience in community pharmacy, dispensing, stock control, regulatory compliance, and patient counselling is highly preferred
Experience using pharmacy software, inventory systems, digital records, or ERP systems will be an added advantage
Key Skills and Competencies

Excellent understanding of pharmacy ethics, patient safety, and professional standards
Good knowledge of pharmaceutical regulations and compliance requirements

Good customer service and problem-solving skills
Ability to supervise pharmacy support staff professionally
Strong record-keeping and documentation skills
Good computer skills and ability to use digital pharmacy systems
Ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy and professionalism
