POSITION: SOCIAL WELFARE OFFICER

OVERVIEW
The Local Government Service Commission is inviting applications from suitable qualified Malawians to fill the following vacant positions existing at BLANTYRE CITY COUNCIL
POST: Social Welfare Officer
GRADE: M6/I
SALARY: In line with Terms and Conditions of Service for Blantyre City Council
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be in possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Sociology, and Community Development. Those with additional training in counseling or psychosocial support will have an advantage. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and record-keeping skills, coupled with a commitment to confidentiality, are essential.
DUTIES
Inspects and supervises child care centers, community-based organizations (CBOs), faith-based organizations (FBOs), and local NGOs within the City Council to ensure policy compliance and safety standards
Conducts needs assessments through structured interviews, evaluations, and regular home visits to identify vulnerable groups
Provide psychosocial support, direct counseling, and guidance to vulnerable groups, including specialized services for gender-based violence (GBV) and HIV/ AIDS.
Facilitates Early Childhood Development (ECD) caregiver training
Conducts community home craft initiatives for women and girls.
Supervises and monitor Adult Literacy Classes
Connects clients to essential resources, including healthcare, housing, education, and employment services
Maintains complete and confidential client records
