POST: PROJECT COORDINATOR

MAC-CDAC is a research unit under the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences that works with Ministry of health, local and international health agencies to address priority health problems in Malawi and the SADC region through operational and evidence synthesis research, capacity building and training, health care systems strengthening, disease surveillance, and monitoring and impact evaluation in communicable diseases including malaria, HIV, vaccine preventable diseases and Neglected tropical diseases.
With funding from Vestergaard and Abt Global, the MAC-CDAC intends to conduct a study to monitor the durability of dual active nets (PermaNet Dual and Interceptor G2) distributed during the 2024 nationwide net campaign, as well as insecticide resistance among major malaria vector mosquitoes in Malawi.
In this regard, MAC-CDAC is inviting applications from suitably qualified, motivated and enthusiastic individuals to fill the following positions under the study:
PROJECT COORDINATOR (1 POSITION)
Position Summary
The Project Coordinator will assist the Principal Investigator implement the net durability monitoring and insecticide resistance testing project activities in several districts. Project activities will include enrollment of households into the study at baseline and carrying out household follow up surveys every 12 months. During follow up surveys, a selected number of nets will be retrieved with replacement, processed for physical integrity and subsequent assays. Further, the project coordinator will lead field collections of live Anopheles mosquito samples and lead on testing the samples for insecticide resistance and midgut microbiomes.
Duration of Contract
Initial contract is for one year with possibility of further extension based on performance and availability of funding.
Reporting Line: The Project Coordinator will be reporting to the Principal Investigator.
Duties and Responsibilities will include but not limited to:
Work with the respective district hospital teams to select the health facilities and eventual enrolment of the households
Carry out the baseline household survey, establish and maintain the database
Analyze field data and draft survey reports
Oversee and coordinate the various nets assessments
Oversee and coordinate the establishment of a resistant Anopheles strain in the lab for future nets assessments
Oversee and coordinate a cohort of the field survey team that is well trained in the field data collection tools
Carry out data analysis and draft manuscripts for publication
Requirements
Applicants must satisfy the following essential requirements:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences.
Candidates with a master’s degree and relevant experience will have an added advantage
Willingness to learn, be mentored, and improve
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Internet and e-mail applications
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and meet strict deadlines
Must be prepared to work odd hours when required
Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
Ability to follow written instructions on experimental Standard Operating Procedures
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to analyze data for publications
