POSITION: CIVIL FOREMAN (2 POSITIONS)

The company has vacancies at one of its Project Sites in Rumphi as follows


Job Title: Civil Foreman (2)

Nature of Contract: 12 months Fixed Term

Duty Station: Rumphi

Reporting to: Construction Manager/Project Manager

Department: Construction/Civil Engineering

Job Purpose

The Civil Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating civil construction activities on site to ensure 

that work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality 

standards, and project schedules. The Civil Foreman oversees skilled and unskilled workers, plant operators, and 

subcontractors engaged in construction activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

1. Site Supervision and Coordination

• Supervise daily civil construction activities and ensure work is carried out according to approved 

drawings, specifications, and method statements. 

• Plan and allocate daily tasks to construction crews and subcontractors.


• Monitor work progress and ensure project milestones are achieved within the required timelines. 

• Coordinate activities with engineers, surveyors, quantity surveyors, and other site personnel. 

• Ensure work areas are properly organized and maintained. 

2. Construction Operations

• Supervise civil works including: 

• Excavation and earthworks. 

• Concrete works. 

• Reinforcement fixing. 

• Formwork installation. 

• Masonry and blockwork. 

• Drainage and culvert construction. 

• Road and pavement works. 

• Building and infrastructure construction. 

• Verify dimensions, levels, and alignments before and during construction. 

• Ensure proper construction techniques and workmanship are maintained. 

3. Labour and Workforce Management

• Direct and supervise artisans, machine operators, drivers, and labourers. 

• Monitor attendance, productivity, and performance of workers. 

• Conduct daily toolbox meetings and work briefings. 

• Mentor and train workers on construction procedures and safety requirements. 

4. Plant, Equipment, and Material Management

• Coordinate the effective use of construction plant and equipment. 

• Monitor equipment performance and report maintenance requirements. 

• Ensure materials are available when required and used efficiently. 

• Minimize wastage of materials and resources. 

5. Quality Control

• Ensure all civil works comply with project specifications, drawings, and quality standards. 

• Participate in site inspections and quality audits. 

• Coordinate testing of materials and completed works where required. 

• Identify and rectify defective work promptly. 

• Maintain records of inspections and completed works. 

6. Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance

• Enforce compliance with the Occupational Safety, Health and Welfare Act and company HSE policies. 

• Ensure workers wear and properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). 

• Identify site hazards and implement preventive measures. 

• Report accidents, incidents, and near misses. 

• Promote environmental protection measures on site. 

7. Reporting and Documentation

• Prepare daily site progress reports. 

• Record labour, equipment, and material usage. 

• Report project progress, challenges, and resource requirements to management. 

• Maintain site records and documentation accurately. 


Qualifications

• Education

• Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE). 

• Certificate or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Building Construction, Construction Management, or a 

related field. 

• Trade qualifications in construction-related disciplines are an added advantage.


Experience

• Minimum of 5 years' experience in civil construction works. 

• At least 2 years' experience in a supervisory or foreman role. 

• Experience in roads, bridges, buildings, water infrastructure, drainage, or other civil engineering projects 

is preferred. 

Skills and Competencies

• Strong knowledge of civil engineering construction methods. 

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. 

• Knowledge of concrete works, earthworks, reinforcement, and drainage systems. 

• Leadership and supervisory skills. 

• Good communication and interpersonal skills. 

• Strong organizational and planning abilities. 

• Problem-solving and decision-making skills. 

• Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations. 

• Basic computer literacy for reporting purposes.
