POSITION: SENIOR MEDICAL OFFICER (SMO) – GRADE H


Location: Phalombe


About the Role

Holy Family Mission Hospital (HFMH) is under Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) under the Archdiocese of Blantyre, situated in Phalombe district. Applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the vacant position below are being invited.


Responsible for: Supervising medical department services and making sure that the health services for the hospital are of the high quality.

JOB TYPE: Full Time


KEY REQUIREMENTS


Qualification & Personal Attributes:


The person should be a holder of Bachelor Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from a recognized training institution and must be registered with the Medical Council of Malawi with minimum of two years working experience.


Should have good interpersonal and communication skills.


Ability to work with minimum supervision.


Experience:


At least 3 years as a general Practitioner in a busy hospital.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES


Supervising and appraising Clinical staff.


Conducting ward rounds on daily basis.


Reviewing in-patients and out-patients.


Overseeing all activities within the Clinical Department.


Making recommendations to the Board of Directors on strategies of improving quality health services.


Analyzing and interpreting data and compilation of quarterly and annual reports.


Performing surgeries.


Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests.


Developing and implementing treatment plans, including prescribing medications, therapies or surgeries.


Performing medical procedures such as suturing, intubation, both minor and major surgeries.


Referring Patients to specialists when needed and coordinate multidisciplinary care.


Maintaining accurate and timely health records in compliance with hospital policies.


Working closely with nurses, pharmacists, specialists and allied health professionals.


Educating patients and families on diagnoses, treatments and preventive care.


Providing guidance to medical students, interns and residents.


Participating in continuing medical education and training programs.


Any other tasks assigned from time to time.
