JOB VACANCY: FLEET MANAGEMENT OFFICER

Purpose of the Role
The Fleet Management Officer will maximise fleet availability, utilisation and profitability while ensuring that rental vehicles are safe, clean, properly maintained and compliant with road regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure rental vehicles are clean, fuelled, serviced and inspected before hire.
- Monitor vehicle utilisation and reduce idle days.
- Coordinate vehicle rotation between branches and the airport.
- Schedule preventive maintenance, servicing and tyre management.
- Manage relationships with garages and service providers.
- Monitor GPS tracking, driver behaviour, speeding, unauthorised vehicle use and fuel consumption.
- Ensure vehicles have valid insurance, Certificate of Fitness (COF), road permits and airport permits where applicable.
- Control fuel, repair and spare-parts costs.
- Prepare monthly fleet performance and profitability reports.
- Handle accident reporting, police reports, insurance claims and damage recovery.
- Supervise and roster drivers and conduct defensive-driving and customer-service training.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Fleet Management, Transport and Logistics Management, Automotive Engineering, Business Administration or a related field.
- At least 3–5 years of fleet management experience, preferably in a car-hire or car-rental company in Malawi.
- In-depth knowledge of the car-hire business and Malawi's vehicle-rental market.
- Valid Malawi driving licence: Class B, C1 or C.
- Competent driving skills.
- Computer literacy, particularly MS Excel, fleet management software and GPS systems.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle mechanics.
- Age range specified by the employer: 30–45 years.
- High integrity and excellent communication skills.
Candidates should be cost-conscious, proactive, good negotiators and able to work under pressure, including weekends and holidays when required.
