Program Overview
The Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), in collaboration with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), proposes a catalytic investment to address gaps in antenatal care (ANC) services and demonstrate the feasibility and impact of integrated primary health care (PHC) diagnostics in improving maternal and newborn health (MNH).
The work will focus on implementing and generating evidence for an integrated package of diagnostics delivered at ANC clinics in Malawi. This model will also help lay the foundation for expanding access to a broader range of essential diagnostics at PHC level. CHAI will continue refining the approach and, over time, expand it to cover the full range of MNH conditions and tests
The proposed model aims to improve access to high-quality, timely diagnostics for HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, anaemia, hypertensive disorders, urinary tract infections, malaria, and other maternal health conditions during ANC visits. The project will also explore the feasibility of introducing innovative diagnostics, including dual and triple point-of-care tests and lateral flow assays.
